Seventh Street Christian Church

Position Summary: This position has shared administrative and communication responsibilities that serve the life of the church. This role provides support and assistance to the pastor and lay leadership of the congregation in coordinating the work of the church office as well as implementing and maintaining digital and electronic communications.

Position responsibilities:
Administration of church office
• Manage the church office
• To offer a knowledgeable presence during office hours
• To facilitate church communication networks: bulletins, phones, weekly announcements, etc.
• Manage the flow of supplies
• To facilitate and schedule building usage in conjunction with staff
• To maintain and communicate the master church calendar
• Maintain mailing lists for various groups in the congregation
• Prepare directories and other materials as needed
• Prepare and mail all correspondence, sort and distribute mail, including visitor letters when applicable
• Maintain copier, paper folder, and other office equipment and obtain service if needed
• If maintenance work is needed to be completed around building, notify property committee
• Maintain control of church’s credit card and account for all expenditures and that all receipts are turned in at that time, so that the bill can be easily dealt with.
• Provide support as needed to treasurer, bookkeeper, financial secretary and memorial committee
• Work closely with the Pastor to evaluate and recommend procedures and processes that support the ongoing ministries of the church
• Other duties as assigned

Communications & Technology
• Create the monthly newsletter, as well as other posters and documents as needed
• Set-up, maintain electronic security (spyware, computer viruses, webpage)
• Develop, manage, update webpage
o set-up and posting of worship services, special events – including video and mp3 formats
• Develop, manage, update church social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.)
• Work with Pastor to develop a long-term communications plan and support implementation

This position is supervised and accountable to the pastor.

Seventh Street Christian Church is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a mainline protestant denomination from Presbyterian Parentage. Seventh Street is community, united in faith and service, sharing God’s grace and love with all creation. The church has a robust outreach program which includes opening its building to many ministries and nonprofits in the area, including the Read Center, HARPS Foundation, Academy of Music, Telecare, Richmond Interfaith Council. Employee will work in a temperature controlled, well-lit office area. The building is secured and has 24 hour camera surveillance. Noise levels are moderate (conversation/musical instruments/singing/copier/telephone/doorbell). Employee will frequently deal with church members, vendors, professional staff members, and the public who either come to the building for worship or religious education, community groups or activities, meetings, or soliciting funds. Occasionally the employee will need to climb one flight of stairs, manipulate locks, turn off lights, or call 911 for emergency services. The employee is not expected to move furniture, load or unload vehicles, provide first aid, perform building cleaning or maintenance, or process/evaluate person seeking funds or offering services. The employee will always refer to SSCC’s policies and procedures.

Time Requirements: 16 hours a week (9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) Monday – Thursday. (There is flexibility in time)

Required Qualifications:

Applicants Skills: • High school diploma or GED, Bachelors degree, preferred. • Proficient in operating and maintaining Microsoft Office Software, Google Calendar, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop • Proficient in other technology/software such as but not limited to: audio editing software (such as NCH), basic IT knowledge, Mail Chimp, and industrial copier • Proficient in interacting and converting Adobe pdf. files and various photo files (jpeg, GIF, etc.) • Proficient and capable of maintaining the website using WordPress, pluggins and widgets. • Fresh perspective and ideas for social media and marking and capable of ensuring consistency of branding • Marketing and print media experience in creating memes, posters, etc. • Strong Social Media Skills • Demonstrate and maintain excellent person-to-person skills – verbal, written • Able to be polite and professional when dealing with vendors, guests, church members • Exercise Confidentiality in all matters • Able to lift up to 25 pounds (for example, adding paper to copier) • Capable of maintaining multiple projects at a time • Mature, responsible and work with minimal supervision • Creative, fun, open minded and displays a sense of humor

Salary:

$16-$20/hour, based on experience. Social Security and income tax are withheld. For sick days and vacation days, please see personnel policies.

Benefits:

This is a part-time position (16-20 hours per week) and compensation will be established at the time of hire. Hours worked will be recorded on a weekly time sheet, signed, and placed in the Chair of Human Resources mail box in the church office. There are no other expressed or implied benefits. As an employee of a Christian Church, Disciples of Christ congregation the employee is eligible to voluntarily participate in the health and pension funds of the denomination. Employee and employer will participate in FICA. Employees are paid monthly (no later than first business day after the 1st of every month). All other provisions detailed in the Personnel section of the Policies and Procedures Manual of SSCC apply.
